Have you ever wondered what it's like to be a police officer? The Chatham-Kent Police Service gives children aged 12 & 13 the opportunity to find out!

Cop Camp was a new initiative launched in 2010 to motivate young people to be outstanding citizens through law enforcement education. Targeting students before high school, this program is a police academy for young people. Our children are the community leaders of tomorrow. We wish to instill an appreciation and respect for law enforcement and their role in society.

Participants in Cop Camp get an up-close look at life as a police officer. Events include:

  • Swearing-in as a honourary constable
  • Tour of CKPS Headquarters
  • Meet the Chief of Police
  • Critical Incident Response Team presentation
  • Canine presentation
  • Traffic Services and safety presentation
  • Crime scene management
  • Community Patrol presentation
  • Graduation ceremony and barbeque

Applicants must be 12 or 13 years of age and reside in Chatham-Kent in order to be accepted into the program. They must also have an interest in policing (the Chatham-Kent Police Service reserves the right to select candidates). There is no cost for children to participate.
